Abstract

A cultural resources survey at the site of the proposed Lumpkin substation and transmission line was conducted during the period of 29 May to 2 June, 1984, for Oglethorpe Power Corporation, Inc. The survey area consisted of a 1.5 ha substation tract and a 23.7 km long, 23 m wide transmission line corridor. The survey identified 21 archeological sites and two artifact occurrences. The sites were represented by two historic, 14 prehistoric and five mixed historic/prehistoric sites. Two sites are considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places on the local level of significance because of their possible association with the nearby Mississippian Period Singer-Moye Mound Site. However, the two sites do not lie within the corridor and will not be directly impacted. The remaining sites are not considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
