Abstract

The City of Roswell awarded a contract to Brockington and Associates, Inc. to conduct an archaeological reconnaissance survey of 6.2 acres (approximately 2.5 ha) of the Historic Roswell Mill (9FU205) site, located on city-owned land. The project was funded through a 2002 Historic Preservation Fund Certified Local Government Pre-development Project grant from the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (Department of Natural Resources, Historic Preservation Division). According to the project scope, the goal of this survey was to "provide the city with preliminary information about archaeological resources in the Roswell mill district for the purpose of planning research, preservation, interpretation, development, and management." The proposed and accepted level of effort included extensive background literature research and review, reconnaissance survey and intensive mapping, data analysis, and reporting. This research report documents results of the survey and provides detailed planning recommendations for future research, preservation, interpretation, development, and management of Roswell's historic mill district.
