Abstract

The Casey Canal. Parkway is to be constructed through a low, swampy area drained by the Casey Canal. The area is densely forested, and in most places, is impenetrable. Only short segments of the-right-of-way have been cleared. These segments were carefully checked by a walking survey, but in many places fill dirt had already been brought in and the original surface was covered by two to four feet of earth. No sites were present in any of the areas that had been cleared. Other sections of the right-of-way have not been cleared, and apparently have not been surveyed, since no right-of-way markers were observed. With the maps provided, the location of the Parkway route could not be determined and the swampy conditions prevented an adequate survey of the entire Casey Canal drainage. Based on survey work done in other similar areas of the coast, there are probably no sites in the remaining portions of the Parkway area. No further investigations are recommended.
