Abstract

This report presents the results of an intensive archeological survey performed by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. in northern Paulding County, where the Georgia Transmission Corporation wishes to construct the proposed Dabbs Bridge Road 230/25/15 kV substation. The goal of the survey was to locate and evaluate any archeological resources that may be adversely affected by the construction of the substation. The survey was undertaken in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The area of potential effect for the project consists of approximately 4.1 ha (10.16 ac). The tract is a mixture of pasture and woodlands, but the entire area was formerly farm land that was agriculturally terraced. Dabbs Bridge Road forms the northern boundary of the tract. The project area was surface searched and shovel tested (with 32 tests) to locate evidence of archeological sites. One small prehistoric lithic scatter was recorded as site 9PA486. We recommend that the site is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Thus, we conclude that the construction of the proposed substation will have no effect to significant archeological resources and should be granted clearance to proceed.
