Abstract

On 16 through 24 June 1997, Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of 3,409 acres of the Godley Tract, Chatham County, Georgia for the Branigar Organization. The work was undertaken in compliance with current federal regulations regarding the management of cultural resources on privately owned lands. One archaeological site (9CH876) was recorded, one site (9CH872) was revisited, and three isolated finds were identified during the survey. Site 9CH872 is recommended potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Additional work at the site is recommended to determine definitively its significance. This site should be preserved in place until additional work can be conducted. Site 9H876 and the isolated finds are recommended not eligible for the (NRHP) due to disturbance and/or a general paucity of artifacts. No further management consideration is recommended for these resources.
