Abstract

Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research in 1996 and 1997 on 486 acres (197 ha) in land management Compartment U-05, which is located in Muscogee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. Seventeen archaeological loci were identified (11 sites and 6 isolated finds). Two historic sites, a possible cemetery and a nineteenth and twentieth century farmstead, were identified that are potentially eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures recommended for these two potentially eligible sites.
