Abstract

A reconnaissance archaeological field survey was conducted over 259 ha to locate cultural resources in the Clarks Hill Lake Project Area of Lincoln County, Georgia and McCormick County, South Carolina. This pedestrian survey, implementing techniques of surface survey and systematic subsurface testing, resulted in the location of seven prehistoric sites in the Cherokee Recreation Area (51.6 ha), Lincoln County, Georgia and 47 prehistoric and historic sites in the Catfish Recreation Area (208.4 ha), McCormick County, South Carolina. One Lincoln County site, FSLN3, is assessed as eligible for National Register of Historic Places nomination. Six McCormick County sites are recommended for additional testing for assessment of their National Register significance.
