Abstract

In November of 2000, Southeastern Archeological Services conducted an archeological survey of two tracts that together total 41.3 ha (102 ac) for the Board of Commissioners of McDuffie County, Georgia, through the engineering firm of Precision Planning, Inc. The county wishes to develop the tracts for a wastewater treatment facility. Nine archeological sites and two artifact occurrences were identified in the areas of potential effect (Table 1). Three of the sites date exclusively to the prehistoric era, two contain only historic components, and the four remaining sites contain both prehistoric and historic components. All of the sites are recommended ineligible to the National Register owing to the sparsity of the deposits, generally low research potential, and/or a loss of integrity. Thus, the proposed undertaking will have no adverse effect to any significant archeological sites.
