Abstract

Between the 7th and 15th of August 1989 a reconnaissance-level archaeological survey was conducted on a proposed development tract near Duluth, Georgia by personnel from Garrow & Associates, Inc. of Atlanta for the Hamilton Corporation of Marietta. A total of 22 previously unrecorded sites was located during the survey. Of the 22 sites, a total of four sites and a reported historic cemetery location were recommended for additional work. Two sites, D-7 and D-13, were located during the upland phase of the survey. Site D-7 contains an early historic (possibly Cherokee) component, and D-13 a late prehistoric one. The last two sites recommended for additional evaluation are D-16, and D-18, both of which are large late prehistoric sites located on terraces of the Chattahoochee River. Both contain the potential for preserved cultural contexts.
