Abstract

The project consists of widening and realigning Shiloh Valley Drive/Greers Chapel Drive and then extending the widened road across I-75 approximately 1,280 feet to a widened Roberts Court to form a continuous road approximately .3 mile south of Barrett Parkway in Cobb County, Georgia. The proposed extension (called the Barrett Parkway Reliever) would have four 11-foot lanes (two in each direction), a variable 6- to 20-foot raised median, and 4-foot bike lanes, 5-foot sidewalks, and curb and gutter on both sides of the road. The proposed extension would also include a new approximately 600-foot bridge over I-75; however, no new interstate access would be provided at the new overpass. The proposed Barrett Parkway Reliever would be constructed by utilizing as much of the existing right-of-way (ROW) associated with Shiloh Valley Way, Greers Chapel Drive, and Roberts Court as possible. The proposed ROW along the Barrett Parkway Reliever would vary from approximately 110 to 200 feet.

An intersection reconstruction would realign existing Shiloh Valley Drive to tie into Greers Chapel Drive and this intersection would be signalized. Due to geometric and ROW constraints, the project would also construct a one- to two-lane roundabout at the new roadway’s connection to existing Roberts Court. Improvements would also be made at the Roberts Court/Barrett Parkway/George Busby Parkway intersection. The proposed project would change the Roberts Court approach to this intersection from the current configuration of one left-turn lane, one shared left-turn/through lane, and one shared right-turn/through lane to two dedicated left-turn lanes, one dedicated through lane, and one dedicated right-turn lane. The proposed project would also slightly realign the Roberts Court approach to this intersection to improve the intersection geometry and speed design. Existing ROW along Shiloh Valley Road and Roberts Court is 100 feet, and is 75 feet along Greers Chapel Road.
