Abstract

Originally, the proposed project ran along Semmes Street from East Farris Avenue to Connally Drive in the City of East Point, Georgia for a distance of approximately 1.6 miles. The proposed project length has since been shortened and now runs from Washington Road to Norman Berry Drive for a distant of approximately 0.7 mile (see Figure 1). New Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant monolithic sidewalk and curbs, marked bicycle lanes, and improved delineated on-street parking areas would be provided. The typical section of the proposed project would consist of two 11-foot traffic lanes, two 4-foot bicycle lanes, an 8-foot parking lane, and two 6-foot sidewalks. The existing Semmes Street corridor consists mostly of two 17.5-foot travel lanes, 2.5-foot grassed strips, and two 5-foot sidewalks. Modern monolithic sidewalk and curbing have already been added along sections of Semmes Street. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is approximately 50 feet. The majority of the proposed project would be built within the existing ROW. However, an approximately 3 to 4-foot strip of required ROW would be taken along the west side of Semmes Street between Neely Avenue and Headland Drive. Approximately 6 to 10 feet of temporary construction easement along Semmes Street would be required for project implementation.
