Abstract

The Federal Law Enforcement and Training Center (FLETC), Glynn County, Georgia, is proposing to construct a new facility for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). This facility will consist of 6 to 8 trailers situated on dirt pads. A parking area will be provided for the employees. The parking lot will be constructed of recycled asphalt resting on top of a graded surface. The project area measures approximately 1.29 ha (3.18 acres). The present area is planted in pine trees that were planted in rows approximately 20 years ago. Julie Morgan, archeologist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, investigated the project area for cultural resources on February 27-28, 2001. Shovel tests were excavated systematically in the area of potential effect. One isolated find, 9Gn287, was discovered during the fieldwork. One plain sand-tempered sherd was recovered (Figure 1).
