Abstract

Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Glynn County, Georgia, is proposing existing campground located in the hypothetical Glynco National Forest. This used as a Practical Exercise site to train federal law enforcement officers to recognize recreation violations. The training area has been used for approximately 12-15 years, environmental assessment nor cultural resources investigations have ever been conducted area. The trainers obtained a surplus motor home and a modern camper trailer last year, and both are presently at the camp site along with picnic tables and a portalet, and a covered observation area. The proposed project area covers approximately 7,750m2 (1.91 acres) and is presently planted in pine trees The upgrades will consist of a looped access road, two trailer/RV gravel pads, portalet sites, signs, a metal shed and underground utilities. Two mock archeological sites and a marijuana field (with plastic plants) will also be created (Figure 1). Only the archeological sites and marijuana field will be outside of the existing campground limits. A footbridge constructed of planed timbers will be laid over an existing ditch. The utilities will tie into those from the Practical Exercise area to the southwest.
