Abstract

The following report on the results of exploration at the Carter's Dam site, Murray County, Georgia, covers salvage operations carried out in 1962 under a Memoradum Agreement between the National Park Service and the University of Georgia as part of the program of the InterAgency arrangement for salvage archeology. This report covers work contracted for under the InterAgency program in 1962 at Carter's Dam and is a part of a survey to be continued in 1963 under a subsequent contract. Cooperation has involved the National Park Service, the University of Georgia, and U.S. Corps of Engineers. Acknowledgment is made for valuable assistance from personnel in the Corps of Engineers in the district office at Atlanta and especially the Resident Engineer, Mr. Woods, at Carter's Dam. We have also received valuable use of heavy equipment in emergency operations from the private contractor, Ledbetter Coorporation of Rome, Georgia, whose local representative at Carter's Dam is Mr. Adams.
