Archeological Testing of Site 9FO88, Lake Sidney Lanier, Georgia

Report Number

Abstract

Archeological testing of site 9Fo88 revealed that the site does not possess sufficient integrity to warrant nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. All artifacts recovered from the site were confined to the shoreline and were obviously redeposited by wave action as evidenced by the water worn condition of the pottery. Subsurface examination of the interior part of the area did not produce any artifacts or evidence of in situ cultural deposits. It appears that previous land modification including farming activities in the early 20th and possibly 19th century and preparation of the area for recreational purposes removed any intact archeological deposits that may have been present. Given the present condition of the site no additional archeological investigations are recommended.
