Abstract

Field examination disclosed that the portion from S.R. 41 south into Marietta was in a heavily developed area. The portion from U.S. 41 to the interchange with 1-75 was under thick pine cover. The most likely site type for a ridge area in this portion of Georgia is the lithic station. I do not think subsurface testing in the forested ridge portion of this project would produce evidence of a site given the nature of this kind of lithic site, i.e., eroded and scattered. After planning assessment and field examination, it is my opinion that this project will not affect the cultural resources of the state.
