Abstract

Project FR-079-1(28) consists of the widening and reconstruction of SR 37 from approximately 600 feet west of the 1-75 bridge (South Magnolia Street) to approximately 600 feet east of SR 7/US 41. The widening will occur on the south side from South Magnolia Street to North Poplar Street and on the north side from North Poplar Street to the end of the project. The existing right-ofway varies from 80 to 100 feet; a maximum of 20 additional feet of right-of-way would be required. The project length is approximately 0.9 mile. Project IR-75-1(193) consists of the widening of SR 37 and the widening of the bridge over 1-75 from approximately 1500 feet west of the existing bridge to approximately 600 feet east of the existing bridge (where Project FR-079-1(28) begins). The existing entrance and exit ramps will be relocated and adjusted to allow for the future widening of 1-75. Existing right-of-, way is 100 feet; a maximum of 120 feet will be required. The project length is 0.46 mile. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of-way was surveyed for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed corridors as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the projects will not affect archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
