Report Number
6500
Year of Publication
1985
Abstract

The proposed project would widen a 2.67 mile section of SR 30/US 80 from west of CSX Railroad crossing in Bellville extending easterly through Hagan to the west city limits of Claxton. The required rights-of-way for the project would consist of the existing 100 feet of right-of-way plus an additional 15 feet on the south side of SR 30/US 80 from the beginning of the project area in Bellville to the west city limits of Hagan. The remainder of the project area through Hagan to the west city limits of Claxton would involve the existing 100 feet of right-of-way. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
