Archaeological Survey of the Proposed Crossing of the Colonial Pipeline on the Broad River in Elbert and Madison Counties, Georgia

Abstract

On October 15, 1977, an archaeological survey was conducted by Roy S. Dickens, Jr. and Linda F. Carnes of the north and south banks of the Broad River within the proposed right-of-way for a gas pipeline. The archaeologists were accompanied in the field by Michael Morgan of Claude Terry and Associates. The survey area is located in Elbert and Madison counties, Georgia, approximately 7.3 miles north of Colbert, Georgia and 1.4 miles northwest of Georgia Highway 172. The pipeline crossings consist. of a tract of approximately 25,000 square feet on the north side of the river and a tract of approximately 17,000 square feet on the south side (Figure 1). The north tract is in Elbert County and the south tract is in Madison County.
