Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey was carried out for the proposed Spout Springs Substation in Hall County, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. This survey was conducted for Greenhorne & O'Mara, Inc. The total area surveyed included approximately 1.01 hectares (2.5 acres) and encompasses part of an existing transmission line right-of-way. The project area lies east of Spout Springs Road, north of its intersection with Thompson Mill Road and west of the intersection of Lollis and Sherwood creeks. Background research at the State Site Files database maintained by the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, found one previously identified prehistoric cultural resource (9HL447) located adjacent to the project tract boundary. Site 9HR447 is a sparse lithic scatter that is not considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. No historic cultural resources had been recorded within the project tract boundaries. The field survey identified no unrecorded archaeological sites or architectural resources. The proposed project will not affect significant cultural resources. No additional cultural resources investigations are recommended.
