Abstract

The Earth Systems Division of Soil Systems, Inc. is pleased to submit this final report of our cultural resource investigation of the Chattahoochee River Crossing, Fulton and Douglas Counties, Georgia. The Flint River Crossing, Clayton and Fayette Counties, Georgia, will be reported under a separate cover as our project number SS-677A, and will be submitted at a later time. Findings of this survey conclude that a single archaeological site was found on the Douglas County temporary workspace, and that that site appeared to meet the criteria for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. In accordance with your original project plans, the pipeline was to be constructed through one edge of the archaeological site. Through your efforts, and the efforts of other Colonial Pipeline Company staff members, the pipeline was rerouted so as to cross an area determined to be free of cultural resources. This route change, coupled with the lack of cultural resources within the Fulton County temporary workspace, led to the conclusion of the report that archaeological clearance should be granted for this river crossing.
