Report Number

Year of Publication
1998
Abstract

The study area consisted of a 55 acre tract located in Habersham County, Georgia, within the city limits of Demorest (see figure 1). Descriptions of the tract will be presented in Chapters I and IV of this report. The final development plans for the Demorest Lake Resource Conservation and Development Area project had not been completed at the time of the reconnaissance survey. General plans involved acquisition of the study tract, removal of an undetermined amount of silt from the Lake edge, and placement of sand on the Lake shore to create a beach. This project is being conducted under the cosponsorship of Habersham County, the City of Demorest, and the Upper Chattahoochee River Soil and Conservation District. The survey effort employed a combination of pedestrian and subsurface testing techniques, which resulted in complete coverage of the study tract. No archaeological sites were found on the study tract, but two potentially significant structures were identified. A literature and records search was conducted in order to better understand the study tract for purposes of the survey.
