Abstract

On October 18-19, 2001, Panamerican Consultants, Inc. (PCI) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, under contract with Williams Gas Pipelines-Transco, Houston, Texas, performed a cultural resource survey for one proposed pipeyard associated with the Momentum Expansion Project. Bowman Loop, northwest of Comer in Madison County, Georgia. The intent of this field investigation was to locate, identify, and record prehistoric and historic properties within the project boundaries, as defined by Williams Gas Pipelines-Transco (Figure 1.1 ). The Principal Investigator for the project was Virgil R. Beasley III. The survey was performed by Jeffery M. Meyer. Photographs documenting the present state of the project area with regard to terrain, general flora, and previous land impacts have been provided (Figures 1.2-1.5). The proposed Bowman Loop Pipeyard is located northwest of the town of Comer in Madison County, Georgia. It is specifically located on the 1972 (photoinspected 1981) Danielsville North, Georgia USGS 7.5' topographic quadrangle (see Figure 1.1 ). The Bowman Loop Pipeyard is approximately 10 acres in size and is located adjacent to Geogia Highway 172. Elevations for the study area are 740 ft. above mean sea level (AMSL). The survey area is presently an eroded pasture with average surface visibility. Natural survey boundaries include: Georgia Highway 172 to the south, Madison County Road 98 to the west, a fence line to the north, and another fence line to east. The survey area is rural farm land. Two standing structures are located just outside the survey area near the intersection of Georgia Highway 172 and Madison County Road 98 and is labeled as Gholston Stand Crossroads (see Figures 1.3 and 1.4).
