The survey area for the proposed Asbury Transmission Line, Twiggs County, Georgia (Figure 1) is the Asbury substation site and the area up to fifty feet on either side of a center (survey) line from the substation to a point where the proposed line will connect with an existing power line. The substation site is near the junction of Fountain Road and a dirt road leading to the Freeport Kaolin Company processing plant. The proposed line will run roughly parallel with the Twiggs-'Wilkinson county line and covers a distance of approximately five miles. Much of the territory through which the transmission line passes has been disturbed as a result of kaolin mining activities. Other portions of the line are forested or in pasture. The landscape provides evidence that all relatively flat areas have been heavily farmed. This farming activity and the kaolin mining have resulted in the silting in of the creek bottoms. The streams have no definite channels and can best be described as swampy, braided streams.
