Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, an archaeological survey was conducted of Georgia Department of Transportation Project F-057-2(12) in Fannin County, Georgia and Polk County, Tennessee. The survey consisted of both a reconnaissance phase and an intensive phase and resulted in the location of four archaeological sites. One of these sites, discussed herein as sites9Fn(DOT)l5 and 19, is considered potentially eligible for the Nationa lRegister. The recommendation is made that extensive testing be undertaken at this site for the purpose of identifying its vertical and horizontal limits, and its cultural association(s). With the exception of this site, the project as presently proposed will have no affect upon any significant archaeological resources.
