Abstract

This report presents the results of an archaeological survey of two borrow areas located on opposite banks of the Savannah River in Elbert County, Georgia, and Abbeville County, South Carolina. These proposed borrow zones are associated with the relocation of a part of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in preparation for the impoundment of the Richard B. Russell Reservoir. The survey located one prehistoric/historic multi-component site that has been destroyed by logging in the easternmost borrow area. No further investigations are advised for this site. No cultural resources were noted on the western borrow area.
