Abstract

A cultural resources survey of nearly 4.5 mi (7.2 km) of 115 kV transmission line and a 6 ac (2.4 ha) tract for a proposed 115/12kV substation was conducted in November, 1985, by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., for Oglethorpe Power Corporation. Seven archeological sites were discovered, that primarily represent large but diffuse lithic scatters. Because of the extremely low density of artifacts, the lack of subsurface remains, and the lack of temporally diagnostic artifacts, none of the sites are considered to be scientifically significant resources. They are judged to be ineligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed construction should not adversely affect the resources, and, from an archeological viewpoint, it is recommended that the project be given clearance to proceed.
