Abstract

R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a literature review and Phase I archeological survey of the proposed KidsPeace Site during June 2003. The goal of the survey was to locate and identify archeological sites within the project area, and to assess resource significance based on National Register of Historic Places criteria [36CFR Part 60.4]. The study area consists of a 25.54 acre tract approximately 1.3 miles northeast of the city of Bowdon in Carroll County, Georgia. Two archeological resources, a site (9CL335) and an isolated find (IF-1), were identified during the field survey. Site 9CL335 is a prehistoric lithic scatter and historic artifact scatter. The prehistoric component contained no diagnostic artifacts, and was assigned an unknown designation. The historic component was only datable to a 19th or 20th century designation. IF-1 consists of a single PP/K fragment, and was assignable only to an unknown prehistoric period. Both of these resources are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places, and no further archeological work is warranted.
