Abstract

In May and June of2004, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted historic resources surveys of the Currahee Ranger's Residence and Associated Outbuildings (Chattooga Ranger District, Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, Stephens County, Georgia) and the Tallulah Work Center and Ranger's Residence Complex (Tallulah Ranger District, Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, Rabun County, Georgia). This documentation was subsequently utilized in making determinations of National Register of Historic Places eligibility for these properties. The Currahee Ranger's Residence and Associated Outbuildings consists of the Ranger's Residence as well as a Bam, Garage, Smokehouse, Pole Building, and Well House. All except the Pole Bam were constructed c.1939; the Pole Bam is non-historic and appears to have been constructed c.1980. The Tallulah Work Center and Ranger's Residence Complex consists the Ranger's Office, Ranger's Residence, Ranger's Garage and Work Center Shed (all built c.1941) as well as four non-historic structures dating from the early 1960s through the early 1980s: the Work Center Herbicide Building, Work Center Oil/Paint House, Work Center Chainsaw Building, and two Pole Barns. It is recommended that the Currahee Ranger's Residence Complex is eligible for National Register listing. It is recommended that the Tallulah Ranger's Residence Complex is not eligible for National Register listing.
