Abstract

This cultural resource survey of a proposed road corridor in Cherokee County, Georgia was conducted November 5 and 6, 1987 by Garrow & Associates, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia. The survey area comprised an approximately 1.75 mi long by 300 ft wide corridor along Lake Allatoona (the Little River) between Rose and Noonday Creeks (Figure 1 ). The field survey coverage involved screened shovel testing at 30 m intervals in wooded areas, and surface inspection of an existing road cut and clearings on a large ridgetop. Screened shovel testing at five meter intervals in a cruciform pattern was implemented on all discovered sites to define site boundaries and the degree of site preservation. Three prehistoric sites were identified by the survey. These are: Site 1 (9Ck644), Site 2 (9Ck645), and Site 3 (9Ck646) (Figure 1 ). This report is organized as follows: Chapter II provides an environmental overview of the project area; Chapter III includes an overview of the prehistoric and historic periods of the project area; Chapter IV discusses the field and laboratory techniques utilized by the survey; Chapter V includes detailed descriptions of the identified sites; and Chapter VI provides recommendations concerning the discovered cultural resources.
