Abstract

On May 7, 1976 a survey of the right-of-way for the proposed Sugar Creek Outfall Extension was completed in order to assess the impact of the project upon cultural resources, as required by federal legislation implemented by 36 C.F.R. 800, 'Procedures for the Protection of Historic and Cultural Properties." The survey, which required one man-day included approximately 6000' of 50' easement adjacent to Sugar Creek between Bay Tree Road and the Withlacoochee River at the northwest limit of the city of Valdosta. Right-of-way covers nearly 7 acres, while the proposed 6' wide trench will involve 0.8 acres of subsurface disturbance to a depth of 6'. Operation of heavy equipment and land clearing during construction could potentially result in surface disturbance anywhere within the 50' easement.
