Abstract

On 15 January 1997 Dave Davis of this office conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of a ten acre area within Arrowhead Public Fishing Area, Floyd County which is under consideration for a new facility management plan. The area is located north of one of the two lakes within the public fishing area (See Attached Map). He was assisted in locating the project area by Mr. Gary Beisser, Senior Fisheries Biologist, Wildlife Resources Division. Mr. Beisser stated that archaeological material in the form of pottery, projectile points, and beads have been found in the area. Archaeological material is also reported to have been found in the lake bottom. The purpose of the survey was to evaluate the archaeological resources reported in this area in order to insure the protection of such resources with the formulation of a management plan.
