Abstract

The present report describes a survey of cultural resources observed within the corridor of u. s. Forest Service road number 1042. Scheduled for construction during 1977, the road is located in Compartment 137, Oconee National Forest. The proposed route begins on a light-duty county road at a point approximately 2.6 kilometers (1.7 miles) North-Northeast of the junction of the boundaries of Jasper, Putnam and Jones counties and approximately 2.6 kilometers (1.7 miles) North-Northwest of Union Hill Church (UTM coordinates 17,262980,3675650). From this point the route extends Southward for approximately 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) until adjoining a second light-duty county road at a point approximately 1.7 kilometers (1.05 miles) East-Southeast of the junction of the boundaries of Jasper, Putnam, and Jones counties and approximately .6 kilometers (.375 miles) West-Southwest of Union Hill Church (UTM coordinates 17,263580,3672800).
