Abstract

During July of 1987. Robert S. Webb conducted a cultural resource survey of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed New Light Church substation site and Holly Springs - New Light Church transmission line corridor. The proposed project is in Cherokee County, Georgia, near Holly Springs. A review of the state site files, the Cherokee Land Lottery of 1832 and the National Register of Historic Places revealed that no previously recorded cultural resources are located within the proposed corridor or substation site. Surface survey and shovel testing yielded two isolated finds from disturbed contexts, but no other cultural resources. Cultural clearance is therefore recommended for the project area.
