Abstract

From 6 to 7 July 2004, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an intensive archaeological resources survey of the proposed Snipesville Substation in Jeff Davis County, Georgia. The survey tract consisted of approximately 9 acres along County Road 90, southwest of Denton, Georgia. This investigation was carried out for Georgia Transmission Corporation. The project was conducted in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and 36 CFR Part 800, by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61, Appendix A. Background research found no previously recorded archaeological resources within the project tract and none within a 1.6 km (1 mi) radius. Phase I archaeological survey consisted of screened shovel tests at 30 meter (100ft) intervals. A visual inspection of all exposed ground surfaces and slopes was also conducted. One isolated find, a plain, sand tempered, residual ceramic sherd, was recorded. Isolated finds are not considered eligible for the NRHP. Archaeological resources clearance is recommended.
