Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act of 1991, project OSAP 020006013, Pickens Count , has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register or Georgia Register of Historic Places (NRHP/GRHP). The purpose of the survey to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would extend the existing 6' X 6' box culvert underneath SR 53 at MP 25.5 in Pickens County. Existing right-of-way is 60 feet; additional required right-of-way is a 35' X 80' area along the south side of SR 53. The existing shoulder would also be extended within the additional required right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
