Abstract

The project proposed would replace Bridge 085-0001-0 over the Etowah River 6 feet to the west of the existing alignment. This calls for the construction of the new bridge while maintaining one lane of traffic on the existing bridge through the use of a temporary signal. Therefore, traffic would be maintained throughout construction. The proposed typical section of the bridge approach is one 12-foot travel lane in each direction with 8-foot shoulders (2-foot paved). The proposed typical section of the bridge is one 12-foot travel lane in each direction with 8-foot shoulders. The proposed bridge deck will be slightly higher than the existing bridge due to staging and constructability. Additionally, the bridge is expected to clear span the Etowah River and construction would place no bents or supporting structures in the river. The project would begin at approximately MP 1.4 and end at MP 1.9 for a total length of approximately 0.5 mile. The proposed bridge would be approximately 140 feet long and 40 feet wide. It is anticipated that approximately 2.2 acre of additional ROW (for a total width of up to 200 feet, 100 feet on each side of the centerline) and approximately 0.3 acre of permanent easement will be required. The time required for construction is approximately 24 to 30 months.
