Abstract

Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. conducted a Phase II Assessment of Effects for two historic structures that were identified in an earlier historic structure survey for the Georgia Transmission Corporation's proposed Turkey Creek 115/25 kV, 10.5 MVA Substation in Dooly County, Georgia. The proposed substation will be constructed on an approximately six acre tract west of Templeton Road and immediately adjacent to and north of the North Americus-Pitts 111 KV transmission line (Figure 1). The transmission line extends in a generally east-west direction between Vienna (Dooly County) and Americus (Sumter County, Georgia). The transmission line crosses Templeton Road in a low and swampy area of Pennahatchee Creek, a tributary of the Flint River, which is several miles to the west of the project area. Templeton Road is a secondary county road that enters Georgia Highway 27 from the north a few miles west of Vienna, Georgia. Georgia Highway 27 runs in an east-west direction paralleling the transmission line through this area of Dooly County (Figure 2).
