Abstract

During the course of testing phase investigations on Reynolds Plantation's Horseshoe Bend tract in 2003 (Figure 1), a few sites previously recommended ineligible were revisited by the field crew of Southeastern Archeological Services. One of these sites, 9GE1658 (Figure 2), a small prehistoric lithic scatter, was selected for additional investigation as a comparison to three Early Archaic sites (9GE1660, 9GE1661, and 9GE1662) that were being tested at the time on the tract. The fieldwork consisted of additional shovel tests on a five meter grid and the excavation of a one meter wide by three meter long test pit. The site consisted of shallow plow zone deposits that were easily excavated with little expenditure of time. The field work was conducted, when time permitted, on four brief site visits on March 3, March 4, March 19, and June 9, 2003. Information concerning site context and the results of previous investigations may be found in the survey report prepared for Reynolds Plantation (Ledbetter 1998: 109).
