Abstract

This report documents and evaluates the six hydroelectric generating plants of the North Georgia Project. The project is owned and operated by the Georgia Power Company and is licensed as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Project #2354. Developed along a 37.5-mile stretch of the Tallulah and Tugalo Rivers, the project is located primarily in northeast Georgia and extends along the South Carolina border (see Figure 1.1). The main elements of the project are the dams, powerhouses, hydroelectricequipment, diversion tunnels, and penstocks of the Burton, Nacoochee, Mathis-Terrora, Tallulah Falls, Tugalo, and Yonah Plants. The North Georgia Project was constructed in phases between 1911 and 1927 by the Georgia Railway and Power Company, a predecessor of the Georgia Power Company.
