Abstract

This letter report addendum summarizes the Phase I Archaeological Survey of 70 acres located in NRMU F11.1 and the Phase II Archaeological Testing and Cultural Resources Assessment of one high priority site (9BN463) in Evans and Bryan Counties, Fort Stewart, Georgia. This investigation was undertaken by Brockington and Associates, Inc. as a subconsultant to the cooperator, The Louis Berger Group, Inc. The project is intended to aid in Fort Stewart's Directorate of Public Works efforts toward compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) (1966, as amended through 2004), 36 CFR 800 (Protection of Historic and Cultural Properties), and Army Regulations (AR) 200-1 (August 2007), which state that the Army is required to consider the effects that proposed actions will have on significant cultural resources, that is, sites listed on or determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Between September 27 and October 8, 2010, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted the Phase I Archaeological Survey and the Phase II Archaeological Testing. This investigation included several phases of research, including archival research, archaeological survey of 70 acres, archaeological test excavations of one site, laboratory analysis, NRHP evaluation, and letter report addendum preparation in compliance with the standards established by the Georgia Council of Professional Archaeologists and in the Scope of Work (SOW) for this task order.
