Abstract

GDOT Project CSMLP-0008-00(275) is located approximately 0.9 mile west of Port Wentworth, Chatham County, Georgia. The proposed project would improve the intersection of Gulfstream Road/Crossgate Road and State Route 21 (SR 21). The project includes only the improvements to the intersection of SR 21 and Crossgate Road/Gulfstream Road. The Crossgate Road name changes to Gulfstream Road west of the SR 21 intersection. The proposed project includes the addition of an exclusive left-turn lane to eastbound, westbound, and northbound approaches of the intersection, improvement to the existing northbound and southbound left-turn lanes, and the extension of the existing exclusive right-turn lane for all approaches. The existing traffic signal would be upgraded based on the proposed lane configurations. No additional through lanes along Gulfstream Road would be provided. The proposed intersection improvement would begin approximately 1,167 feet west of the intersection along Gulfstream Road and extend to approximately 884 feet east of the intersection along Crossgate Road, for a total length of approximately 2,051 feet (0.39 mile). Along SR 21, the project would extend approximately 1,043 feet south of the intersection to approximately 838 feet north of the intersection, for a total length of approximately 1,881 feet (0.36 mile). The design changes include the addition of curb and gutter, and additional drainage systems, which include rip-rap and concrete spillways. Supplementary areas of easement would be required to implement these changes. Less than one acre of right-of-way would be required to implement the proposed project. The total project length for the proposed intersection project would be approximately 3,932 feet (0.75 mile).
