Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site is a proposed telecommunications facility located at off of Lees Mill Road, Forest Park, Clayton County, Georgia. The facility would consist of a proposed 60‑foot by 40‑foot (18‑meter by 12‑meter) fenced compound surrounding a 199‑foot overall height monopole telecommunications structure. The proposed facility would be accessible by a proposed approximate 256‑foot long by 20‑foot wide (78‑meter by 6‑meter) wide access/utility easement.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, we found 14 previously recorded archaeological sites (9CN30, 9CN123, 9CN124, 9CN126, 9CN127, 9CN128, 9CN133, 9CN134, 9CN135, 9CN136, 9CN137, 9CN141, 9CN142, 9CN199) and 14 surveys (2098, 2885, 2968, 4128, 4210, 4550, 6533, 6534, 6537, 6548, 6550, 6552, 6557, 6562) identified within a 1‑mile background research radius of the proposed project, but outside the APE for direct effects. Furthermore, during the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
