Abstract

This report documents the results of a cultural resource survey of the proposed Oak Hill-McGarity-McDonough 115 W transmission line and the McGarity 115/25 kV substation site. The field survey took place from January 14 through January 22, 1988. The project consisted of a pedestrian survey of a 17 mi (27.4 km) long by 100 ft (30.4 m) wide corridor in Newton and Henry counties, Georgia, and a 5.5 ac (2.2 ha) substation site in Henry County. The topography and vegetation of the project area are typical of the Piedmont. A total of seven archaeological sites were recorded by the survey. These sites include four prehistoric sites, two historic mid-nineteenth century sites, and a single site with a prehistoric component and a mid-nineteenth century historic component. None of the seven recorded sites are recommended as being potentially eligible to the National Register of Historic Places.
