Abstract

SR 30/SR 90/US 280 just east of 1-75 consists of a rural section with two 12 foot through lanes (one lane eastbound and one lane westbound) and a 14 foot continuous center turn lane with 10 foot rural shoulders. Existing ROW is 140 feet on SR 30/90, 100 feet on Midway Road and SR 30/US 280, and 130 feet on SR 90.

The proposed project is the widen·ing of approximately 0.25 mile of SR 30/90 in the City of Cordele in Crisp County, Georgia. SR 30/90 will be widened to provide two 12 foot through lanes eastbound and two 12 foot through lanes westbound with a 14 foot flush median with 16 foot urban shoulders. The project area begins at the 1-75 Northbound entrance ramps tying into the existing four lane facility, extends to approximately 500 feet east of the intersection of SR 30/90/US 280 and Midway Road, and includes approximately 200 feet to the north and south of the Midway Road/SR 90 intersection. Also, the side road Arc Way will be adjoined approximately 1000 feet to its terminus. The proposed project is expected to remain within the existing ROW on all roads; however, additional ROW may be required at the intersection of SR 30 and SR 90/Midway Road to accommodate miters and the right-turn auxiliary lanes. The archaeological survey was designed to cover required ROW and this additional area (Figure 1).

Access to SR 30/SR 90 will change in the following ways:

• The entrance to the Pilot Travel Center at station number 113.00 (on SR 30 nearest the intersection with SR 90/Midway Road) will become right-in, right-out only.

• The property at the southwest corner of the intersection of SR 30 and SR 90/Midway Road will have the driveway access closest to the intersection closed. A second drive, already in place further west from the intersection of SR 30 and SR 90 will be left in place.
