Archaeological Investigations of the Proposed Grady County Recreation Lake

Report Number

Abstract

This report details an archaeological survey and preliminary testing program at the proposed Black Creek recreational lake located in Grady County, Georgia during September of 1987. The project was required to satisfy the state and federal mandates protecting material cultural heritage, both historic and prehistoric. The survey and testing was conducted by Garrow and Associates, Inc. The survey results for the lake impoundment area, and the surrounding state owned lands, demonstrated that there were no prehistoric or historic archaeological sites within the mitigation area. Two isolated artifacts were found during the investigations, but each consisted of a single prehistoric artifact. Based on these findings, the report recommends that no further archaeological investigations are necessary for the project area.
