Abstract

During August and November of 1987. Robert S. Webb conducted a cultural resource survey of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's (OPC) proposed Cedar Rock - Warrenton transmission line corridor and Cedar Rock substation site. The proposed project area is in Warren County, Georgia, near Warrenton. A review of the state site files, the National Register of Historic Places and various map and report files revealed that no previously recorded cultural resources are located within the proposed corridor or substation site. Intensive surface survey and shovel testing yielded six archeological sites (one Archaic (?). one Late Archaic/historic, one prehistoric site of unknown origin, two historic scatters and one historic structure) and one isolated find. These resources were evaluated in terms of National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria (36 CFR 60/36 CFR 800). None of the resources were found to be significant and cultural clearance is recommended for the project area.
