Abstract

The state archeological site file shows a large, poorly defined archeological site (9Ws18) encompassing the proposed Washington City #2 substation tract. The site was reported by an artifact collector (E.B. Mell) in the 1950's and precise site location and boundaries are unknown. The project area was surface searched and shovel-tested by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. on 5 August, 1988. No evidence of cultural resources was encountered. We conclude that no site exists in the project area and that no further archeological work is needed.
