Abstract

Project FR-178-1(33) begins just west of the Cedartown Bypass at the intersection of us 278/SR 6 and Woodall Road and extends easterly for approximately 4.6 miles, ending at the intersection of us 278/SR 6 and Old Cedartown Road. Project FR-178-1(34) begins at the intersection of US 278/SR 6 and Old Cedartown Road and extends easterly for 4.2 miles to the intersection of us 278/SR 6 and the Nathan Dean Bypass; the project then continues easterly on the Nathan Dean Bypass/SR 101 for approximately 2 miles. Approximately 50 to 60 feet of right-of-way would be added to the existing 130 feet of right-of-way; some new location segments and realignment segments designed for intersection improvements would require an additional 30 feet of right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the projects' corridors was conducted.

The archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.

No archaeological resources were located within corridors as described in paragraph two above. It therefore, that the projects would not affect resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP the projects conform to that described above.
