Final Report: Evaluative Testing Maddox Park Dump Proposed Proctor Creek Line

Report Number

Year of Publication

Abstract

Archeological testing was conducted on properties destined to be impacted by MARTA's Proctor Creek rail line construction. The program confirmed that portions of the Atlanta municipal dump (1884-1910) fall within the impact zone. The dump deposits were found to be archeologically significant and it is recommended that they be considered eligible for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places at the local level. Since adverse impacts due to construction can not be avoided, the implementation of a data recovery program has been recommended. Details are set forth in this report. , Sensitive areas cover .81 acre of Maddox Park and range in. depth from 8 to 19 feet. Two other resources, a railroad bed and a gravity sewer line were found to be too disturbed and too recent to warrant further investigation.
